Wound Instructions for Office Biopsies & Excisions

Please leave your bandage on for twenty-four to forty-eight hours following the procedure. At that time, you may remove the bandage and shower. Just allow the water to run over the area and pat it dry. Do not wash it directly with soap and water. If you wish to cover it again with Band-Aids or a gauze pad, that is fine. You may also leave it open to the air if it will not rub against clothing.

Discomfort after the procedure is usually minimal. In most instances aspirin, Tylenol, Advil or Motrin is sufficient for control of discomfort.  Avoid these medications if you have a medical condition that does not allow you to take them.

In most instances, sutures will be removed either partially or completely seven to fourteen days after the procedure. Absorbable sutures (that do not need to be removed) will be covered with a Steri-strip (tape strip) on your skin over the incision. Leave Steri-strip on 7 to 10 days and then remove.  An appointment will be made for you prior to leaving the office.

In most instances, activity is unlimited unless specified at the time of the procedure. Soaking in a swimming pool or a bathtub is not recommended.
